We were really excited to go but quickly became disappointed when we found out that it is one of the least dog friendly national parks. Carmel-by-the-Sea is one of the most dog friendly cities in the U.S. The town sits about 2 hours south of SF, on your way down to Big Sur along the Pacific Coast Highway. Los Liones Trail (Santa Monica Mountains) - Los Angeles, CA

Los Liones Trail is one of the more beautiful coastal trails in the Santa Monica Mountains, right off the Pacific Coast Highway. With easy access from West LA, it's a good morning or late-afternoon hike. The dust and sun can get brutal in the summer, so I wouldn't recommend doing this hike in the middle of the day.
