I'd like to put in a plug for the AMC's Spring Hiking Program. I really enjoyed this program in 2014. It helped me launch into the Leadership Program with AMC! I met some great people, learned important skills, and went on fun adventures. Best of all, you don't need a car to go hiking - participants are very eager to carpool.
There are plenty of beautiful places in New England. From fall foliage hikes to breathtaking views, these top 5 places are unique and absolutely worth the drive from Boston.

Size: 230 acres
Directions: Head on 93-S and take Exit 3 to Ponkapoag Trail (turn left after the highway).
Arethusa Falls is a beautiful 2.6 mile round trip hike in the fall. The first parts of the trail had nice fall foliage, and then it led up to the famous falls. There's some debate as to the highest waterfall in New England. I don't think Arethusa Falls is it, but it's beautiful nonetheless!

What: Lonesome Lake Hut is a beautiful Appalachian Mountain Club hut located in Franconia Notch. There is a main dining room filled with games, and several bunk cabins (not-heated). No dogs allowed unfortunately.

When: Summer for nice weather, fall to avoid the crowds
Where: Acadia National Park is located 5 hours from Boston. The main park area is within miles of Bar Harbor, ME
